The Domestic Violence Coalition of Oswego County (DVCOC) has been in existence since 1990. Initially the involved parties were from Services to Aid Families, the Oswego and Fulton City Police Departments, the Oswego County Sheriff's Department, Family Court and the Oswego County Probation Department.

Our Membership has now expanded to include the Oswego County District Attorney, Phoenix and Pulaski Police Departments, S.U.N.Y. Oswego Police Department, the State Police, and the Oswego County Department of Social Services, Arbor House, C.O.C.O.A.A. and Farnham, Inc.

Extended Advocacy Services at Family Court

Thanks to the cooperation of Oswego County Family Court and DSS SAF has a part time presence at the Family Court. A SAF Victim Support Advocate is located in an office at Family Court from 1:30 to 5:00 pm on Mondays and from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Fridays.

Anyone seeking the services of the civil or criminal justice system in Oswego County as a result of domestic violence can access these services. Information about the legal system is also available.

Specialized services of this Program include explaining necessary court paperwork, assisting clients with completing their Family Court Petitions and explaining how the legal systems operate and potential relief offered by both the Family and Criminal Court systems. At this location SAF is also able to provide general SAF services including: safety planning, information and referral, case management, and crisis intervention.

Staff anticipated most of their clients will not be making advance appointments so there may be a need to wait for a staff person to be available. Questions about the Program can be answered through the Abuse and Assault Hotline at 342-1600. As with other SAF staff, messages are not returned without a prior Release of Information, signed by the client.
