SAF
Prevention Program
Educating
Youth, Adults, and Community
SAF believes
that prevention and education are key to ending domestic violence and
sexual assault.
Child
Sexual Abuse Prevention
- Offered
to any school district within Oswego County
- Presented
to grades K - 6 with age appropriate videos and discussions

- Presented
to preschool and daycare centers with age appropriate videos and discussions
- Discusses
good touch, bad touch, and confusing touches
- Teaches
rules for personal body safety
- Sessions
length is 30 - 45 minutes
The program
utilizes the "No, Go Tell" curriculum encouraging children
to think about what kinds of touches are uncomfortable, saying "No"
in a loud, firm voice to unwanted touches, getting away from people
or situations which are uncomfortable, and telling a trusted adult
about what has occurred.
SAF Kids
Prevention
- Domestic
Violence prevention and awareness program is
available to Grades 5-12 throughout Oswego County
- Educates
youth about basic human rights, types of abuse, and how to protect themselves
against violence through assertive problem solving
- A series
of appropriate curricula are available for students in special education
classrooms
- It can
be offered in conjunction with law enforcement's D.A.R.E. school intervention
programs
The SAF
Kids curriculum can be adapted to meet the needs of children with
special needs. In addition, the program can be structured by the school
to address specific topics such as sexual harassment, dating violence,
and date rape. Youths are taught how to identify abusive behaviors
through activities and role plays. The youth are also taught about
where to go should they be in, or know of someone in a violent relationship.
Statistics
show that the incidents of child sexual abuse in Oswego County are
frighteningly high, and a presumption is made that a portion of the
children receiving this type of curriculum may have been victimized
in the past and not disclosed. The program provides children with
the skills required to protect themselves from further harm and is
not their fault, whether or not they choose to disclose.
