Sexual Assault Survivors

SOMETIMES,
it's someone
you know

~ Violence among people who know each other can be physical, sexual, and/or emotional in nature. It can occur between people who have just met, people who have been together for awhile, and between people who are married. People of all ages, educational levels, and social backgrounds are victimized. Behaviors range from minor controlling acts to rape to physical assault.

Rape Crisis Program

If you are a survivor of rape or past sexual abuse - it's never too late to
talk to someone who can help.

What is Sexual Assault?

Sexual assault is a crime of power and violence, not of passion. Anyone can be the victim of sexual assault, no matter what age, class, race, education, religious tradition, disability, or sexual orientation.

The attacker could be a stranger or it could be someone you know and trust. The attacker could be someone in your family, a friend, a co-worker, a boss, a neighbor. It might even be your spouse or someone you are dating.

Sexual Assault is not the victim's fault. A person's style of dress or behavior does not cause someone else to rape. Click here to see what to do after an assault

SAF's Rape Crisis Program

SAF works with men, women, and children who survive rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, or child sexual abuse.

Trained counselors are on call 24 hours a day to help people from many different backgrounds. SAF counselors are caring people with valuable knowledge and experience who can help you in times of crisis.

What SAF can do for you

SAF's Sexual Assault Counselors can:

* Go to the hospital with you to give emotional support during medical treatment and/ or evidence collection.
* Go to the police station with you if you choose to report the crime
* Meet with you for short term, individual counseling.
* Help you apply to the N.Y.S. Crime Victims Board to pay out-of-pocket expenses, such as medical bills, that are a result of a crime.
